Portland Uncorked! Informational Gathering

On January 14, 2016, we had a nice evening talking with consultants about our mission and how critical corporate sponsorships are to our ability to do project work.   Thanks to Woodard & Curran for allowing us to hold the event at their office!

At this gathering, Haley & Aldrich provided two big announcements:

 1.  They will again be a GOLD sponsor of our event; and
 2. They are offering the following challenge to the Maine engineering  community:

Haley & Aldrich will match

other corporate sponsorships

dollar for dollar –  up to another $5,000!!!!!

Please join us as a sponsor and help us maximize the match!

Annual Fundraiser

We have a reoccurring annual fundraiser featuring beer, wine, appetizers, music, and silent auction items. Find out more here.

Annual Yard Sale

We’ve had some successful yard sales on Greely Road in Cumberland, one year raising $1050 for our Dorgobom project. Much appreciation to Jake Jacobson for developing, spearheading, and taking full ownership of this event – from enlisting volunteers, to pick-up and temporary storage of goods, to hosting the sale up the street from his house (including provision of hot coffee and baked treats!), to disposition of unsold items.  We couldn’t have done them without everyone who helps on these large team efforts – thank you to all who help!!!

Yarmouth Clam Festival

We had a booth at the annual Yarmouth Clam Festival (2012-2014) where we sold photos and earrings.  Here are some pictures of the 2014 event:

Common Ground Fair

We had a booth at the Common Ground Fair in Unity, ME from September 20-22, 2013.

Festival of Nations

We have  had a booth at the Greater Portland Festival of Nations in Deering Oaks Park (2010-2013). The Festival of Nations is a day of music, dance and other performing arts. It represents cultural traditions from across America and the world.

In 2010, the festival celebrated over 60 ethnic and diverse vendors from around the world, including African American, Armenian, Bosnian, Cambodian, Caribbean, Congolese, French, Finnish, Greek,Hispanic Nations, Irish, East Indian, Italian, Native American, Nigerian, Polish, Romanian, Somalia, Sudanese, Thai, Uganda, and Vietnamese.

It was a great way to get our name and mission out there, and a good time was had by all.  And the food at the Festival was amazing!

Will Juggle for Water!

A fun evening was had by young and old alike on May 21, when Matthew and Jason Tardy, the extremely talented juggling brothers, put on a high-energy performance of juggling and humor.   It was a fantastic show and, if you missed it, you should make a point to catch one of their upcoming local performances.  For more information, visit www.twoshow.com.  Matthew and Jason generously donated all profits from ticket sales to the May 21 show to our Dorgobom Water Supply project in Ghana.  We raised over $500 – thank you Matt and Jason! And last but not least, much thanks to Sara Wright for spearheading this event.

Engineering Expo

The 2011 Engineering Expo at the USM Field House in Gorham on February 19th was a great success!  This event was sponsored by the Maine Engineering Promotion Council.  Several of Maine’s top engineering firms, engineering schools, educators, government agencies, industry, and engineering societies had booths and exhibits.  We co-exhibited with EWB-UM, and had lots of good foot traffic…saw toddlers to high school students with their parents.

Local Buzz Fundraiser

On Monday, December 13, 2010, we had a good turnout for our holiday happy hour which raised $600 for our Ghana project! Thank you to everyone who attended and to the Local Buzz in Cape Elizabeth for hosting.

Stonyfield Cafe Fundraiser

On Tuesday, November 9th, 2010, EWB Portland, Maine held a fundraiser at the Stonyfield Cafe in Falmouth.  This restaurant offered 10% of the proceeds from Tuesday non-profit evenings to a deserving charity.  We set up a table and had several items on display from our recent pre-assessment trip to Ghana.  It was a great opportunity to spread the word about our important mission.

World Cup Soccer Fundraiser

On June 26, 2010, EWB Portland Maine celebrated the second round match between the USA and Ghana with a fundraiser at the Sea Dog Brewing Co. in South Portland.  In addition to door prizes and some friendly wagers, the Sea Dog generously donated a portion of the event’s proceeds to support our water supply project in Dorgobom, Ghana.  Thank you Sea Dog!

EWB-USA International Conference 2010

The annual EWB-USA International Conference was held in Denver, Colorado on March 18-21, 2010.  Several EWB Portland members attended.   This year’s conference focused on integrating different professional disciplines to improve EWB-USA’s capacity to educate its members and serve its partnering communities.
